Staging World of Coffee 2015 in Gothenburg, at the heart of Europe’s Nordic region, was a natural choice for SCAE, explains Executive Director, David Veal. “Coffee lovers in the Nordic region are the world’s most prolific coffee drinkers, consuming more cups of coffee per capita than anywhere else on earth. With such a passion for coffee, it is little wonder that the speciality coffee sector in the Nordic countries is among the most exciting in the world, setting trends and leading innovation in our industry. We are looking forward to bringing World of Coffee to the region and expect it to be the biggest and best event in the show’s history.”

The Definitive Coffee Event

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, World of Coffee is Europe’s definitive coffee show, attracting the industry’s most influential producers, suppliers and professionals who gather at the event to meet existing and potential buyers, promote their products, learn about the latest trends and developments in the sector and compete in major international competitions.

SCAE anticipates that more than 5,500 visitors will travel to Gothenburg for the event in June and, with over 95% of stands now booked, exhibition space is selling out fast. Major exhibitors confirmed for World of Coffee include Brita, BUNN Corporation, CMA Astoria, Dalla Corte, Giesen Coffee Roasters, Gruppo Cimbali, Marco Beverage Systems, Nestlé Nespresso, Nuova Simonelli and more.

An Exciting Line-Up of Events

Along with a 10,000sq.ft exhibition featuring products, trends and innovations from the coffee industry’s leading suppliers, World of Coffee will also include a busy programme of competitions, symposiums, seminars and social events.

The most talented baristas, brewers, roasters and mixologists from across the globe will compete in the World Cup Tasters Championship, World Coffee Roasting Championship, World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship and World Brewers Cup. The five championships, produced by World Coffee Events, are among the most hotly-contested and highly-anticipated competitions in the global coffee calendar.

New for 2015 is Re:co, the inaugural speciality coffee symposium, which will take place on 15-16 June at Eriksbergshallen in the Port of Gothenburg. The symposium will gather the greatest minds and most influential thinkers in coffee to discuss the major issues impacting the industry and feature presentations from leading coffee professionals, scientists and renowned global figures in the fields of sustainability, business and politics.

In addition, SCAE’s hugely popular education programme, which sold out at World of Coffee Rimini 2014, will return in Gothenburg and include thought-provoking and inspiring seminars from top coffee educators. The SCAE Excellence Awards, New Products of the Show Awards and SCAE’s annual Photography Competition will also be held at the show.

Topics of the seminars were carefully structured to reflect the current demands in the coffee industry.

Multiple times reigning national champion of Greece and World Barista Championship finalist Stefanos Domatiotis taught a lecture about "Art Of Brewing Slow Coffees: Chemex , V60, Clever, Aeropress". Stefanos covered different factors affecting the quality of the brew, and went into great details when it comes to V60 and Chemex brewing techniques. Although, according to Stefanos French-press allows for the most stable and consistent results in taste, thus making this particular brewing method very interesting and practical for the coffee-shops which employee large teams of baristas.

World Latte Art Champion 2011 - Christos Loukakis (Greece) shared his knowledge with participants in a seminar "Latte Art - A Perfect Cappuccino". Christos focused his attention especially on the practical part of this workshop, guiding each participant when pouring few cappuccinos.

The winner of the World Barista Championship 2013 Pete Licata (USA) chose for his seminar a subject on "Effects Of Grinding And Dosing On The Quality Of Espresso". In the theoretical part of the seminar Pete spoke about factors affecting the taste of espresso, and how to create the best flavor balance. During the practical part of the seminar, Pete prepared for the participants espresso and cappuccino from the coffee which he used in his winning performance at WBC in Melbourne this year, and also answered questions about Parisi Artisan Coffee, his signature drink and personal coffee preferences.

The winner of the World Coffee in Good Spirits championship, Victor Delpierre (France) held a seminar on "What Is Cocktail? Synergy Of Coffee And Alcohol". Victor introduced his vision of the perfect cocktail, talked about his preparations for the championship, about classic Irish coffee, and then prepared for the participants his signature drink: "CCC-Experience: Coffee, Cogniac and Cigar".

Francesco Sanapo (Italy), who entered this year a very privileged group of "six best baristas in the world", gave a super-interesting presentation on evaluation of espresso in what he called "Life Of Espresso". Francesco elaborated on the standards for preparing this beverage, taste perceptions and conducted a blind cupping where participants tried to determine bitterness, sweetness, saltiness and sourness in the taste.

The winner of the World Barista Championship 2011 Alejandro Mendez (El Salvador), drawing from years of experience with coffee farms in El Salvador, lectured about the species of indigenous trees and experiments with processing of coffee cherries. During seminar on "Coffee Varieties, Processing Methods And Their Impact on Espresso" Alejandro was aided by his protégé William Hernandez, who became the third in the WBC 2013. Alejandro and William brought along three main varieties of Salvadoran coffee - bourbon, pacas and pacamara, which were processed in different ways. All of the varieties where tasted by participants in form of espresso.

Seminar on "Roasting Profiles. Defects. Cupping" was held by Spanish barista champion and WBC 2011 finalist - Javier Garcia. Javier was assisted by Asli Yaman, Turkish Brewers Cup Champion 2013, and the Chief Roast Master of Soyuz Coffee Roasting. During his presentation, Javier considered the most important aspects of roasting, which was followed by cupping of different roast profiles. Participants gained an insight into actions which caused the differences in flavours.
